It seems this past week Joshua's learned so much and become so much more of a little "person" himself. He now not just "rolls over" but gets a few rolls going in one direction or another, no longer staying on the blanket where I just laid him down. This works to his advantage, enabling him to reach a toy or something interesting previously out of his reach, as well as to his disadvantage. The wooden floor he encounters on about roll #3 is disappointingly hard on the head. He's also increasingly social, craning his head over our shoulders as we hold him in church or other public places, trying to make eye contact with the people behind us and get some smiles. He still lights up in a full-face, wide-open smile whenever someone looks him right in the eyes and smiles. Of course, he continues to enjoy the company of his brother and sister. Jonathan has been really attentive to keeping Joshua company and playing with him while I work on dinner, and Abby is always eager to help her baby brother, often running into the next room for a baby toy or something he'd like. Joshua has also joined us at the table for dinner time, sitting more or less upright in the booster-seat / high-chair and playing with baby toys beside us. This afternoon at lunch he happily banged a chain of plastic rings on the table, delighting in his own ability to make quite a bit of noise.
Jonathan and Abby continue to learn avidly as well. Jonathan just took off reading a few weeks ago and is now working through early reader books. It's so fun to see him reading words around the house and neighborhood as we drive around and watching the world open further to him. After watching our LeapFrog Letter Factory video a few times, Abby has learned the basic phonics and loves to try to incorporate letters into her drawings. She'll call to me from across the house, "Mommy, I made an "mmmmmm" ! I made an "mmmmmmm" !" She's also extraordinarily picky about how I form the "A" in her name, requiring frequent re-do's on my part for failure to execute the crossed line in the middle exactly straight or completely.
Time to get to work on Jonathan's latest Kiwi Crate project, a starlight lantern :)
