Memorial Day Weekend

* Please bear with me as I mess with the blog layout.  In an effort to enlarge the photos, I also have to change the layout as blogger no longer supports my design from 4 1/2 years ago.  I guess it's about time to update anyways.  Here's a quick trial for this post, at least. *

We were all tickled to get to spend the long weekend with my parents who came down from Dallas.

We enjoyed Indian food together Friday night.  At home, Jonathan was fascinated by his Papa's magic and has been doing "magic" every since.

As Jonathan was purporting that he would do something by magic last night, I reminded him that even Papa's magic is "pretend."  He explained that "yes, but I'm going to use magic to make myself do real, not-pretend magic, and then I'm going to use magic to...."  I forget what the object of the intended magic trick was at that point, but I was quite amused with his creative logic.  It reminded me a bit of using the genie's 3rd wish to wish for more wishes.

Saturday the kids went to the Children's Museum with their grandparents while we took care of some "spring cleaning."  It used to be that we set aside time to catch up on household projects and took care of such tasks as touch-up painting and organizing cabinets.  At this point, it was simply some time to be sure the kids' drawers were full of clothes that actually fit and all the stuff a few sizes too small had been moved out.  The kids had a blast at the Museum and then the park, and came home tuckered out!

The highlight of Abby's weekend was having her nails painted by Nonnie.

She was eager to blow them dry.

Either Papa or her Daddy was standing behind me at this point, and Abby was all smiles telling them about her newly painted nails.  Afterwards, she ran around the house kicking up her toes telling people, "Pretty... don't touch!"

Sunday we enjoyed having Mom and Dad at church with us, where they were able to hear our new Pastor speak.  Grandma and Grandpa joined us for a fancy after-church lunch at Luby's ;) and the guys hit a few golf balls in the afternoon.  You'll have to ask my Dad for the footage, but I understand Jonathan's use of the golf club was... creative.

Monday after the grandparents hit the highway we headed to the zoo for a family day.

Strapped into the double stroller and ready to roll!

When asked their priorities, Jonathan picked "lizards and snakes."  Abby was eager to see the tigers.  So we set off to check off the important to-do's first.

The reptile house was a bit hit for both kids.

But Abby was more than a little disappointed when her requests to "Holdyou lizard! Hold you lizard!" were met with Daddy's explanation that we couldn't hold the lizards at the zoo.

Really, who'd want to hold this guy?

Abby got to see her tiger,

and Daddy stole a kiss as she watched the Okapi.

The elephants are a pretty reliable hit and don't seem to nap as much as the lions and tigers.

And we gave Daddy the camera to catch the obligatory proof that Mommy was there, too.

After a picnic lunch, Dippin' Dots ice cream, and the petting zoo, we returned home to a nice, loooong naptime!
