Joshua

"Then Moses summoned Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, "Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land that the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give to them, and you shall put them in possesion of it.  It is the Lord who goes before you.  He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you.  Do not fear or be dismayed."
~ Deuteronomy 31:7-8

Dear Joshua,

Your daddy and I learned this past week that we're to have a second son, and we're delighted!  We can't wait to see you in just a few months.  More than that, we can't wait to watch you grow up, to see your personality and gifts unfold, and to witness all that the Lord has in store for you.  We're eager to see the friendships that develop between you and your siblings, and we are excited to have you join in our family life.

We've chosen to name you Joshua for the leader in the Old Testament that succeeded Moses in leading the Israelites.  Joshua and Caleb, in Numbers 14, witnessed to the congregation the goodness of the land that the Lord had prepared for His people.  Despite the fears of their people in the face of a powerful enemy, they urged courage, obedience, and faithfulness to God, recognizing that God was more than able to deliver His promises.  Joshua is later commissioned to lead the nation of Israel into the Promised Land.

Son, it is our prayer than you will learn the courage and the faith of your namesake.  We believe in a good God who is more than able to deliver on His promises, and we pray that in our home you and your siblings come to know and follow Him.

As I write this morning you're awake and kicking away.  As eager as we are for your birth, this season of anticipation is sweet and we're enjoying every minute of it.  We love you dearly already,

Mommy & Daddy
