I discovered a mushroom in a neighbor's yard last week after heavy rains the day before and couldn't wait to get the kids down to bed and photograph it. Since I was pulling my camera out well after 10pm to shoot these, they were all with my speedlight, which I think actually highlighted the texture much better than most natural light would have. It was a fascinating exercise in directional light and contrast. They're probably dull to anyone else, but I was totally thrilled with them.
