Rodeo Time!

This annual event brings to mind how very much my little boy has changed since last year's trip to the Rodeo. In fact, it was at the Rodeo two years ago that I first felt Jonathan kick (he's always liked country music). That night we went for the concerert. Last year we had to make it a late afternoon/ early evening event in order to be home by his bedtime, though Jonathan did nap in the stroller for a while. And this year, we were there at noon and home for a late afternoon nap. It's amazing how much life has changed in a few years. Jonathan turned 19 months this week, and I'm having trouble grappling with the fact that he's closer to his second birthday than he is his first. When did that happen? I wouldn't trade the delight of toddlerhood for the world but do wish the days would slow down.

Yeehaw! A cup of milk and a cowboy hat... we're on our way!

Gotta love Rodeo food. Overpriced and takes 3 years off your life, but the Cowboy Burritos and spiral fries were SOOO good!

"Driving" the tractors was a huge hit. Toddlers adhere closely to the laws of physics, and every reaction does in fact have an equal and opposite reaction. The pain of separation is equal and opposite to the delight of discovery... which means there were more than a few tears shed when it was time for another little boy's turn to ride the tractor. So we quickly moved on... to the petting zoo.

Jonathan's Mommy got over her fear of Brucellosis long enough to let him pet the sheep and goats, ... then lots of hand alcohol! At the farm animal shows, Jonathan was very excited to see the baby cow, born earlier that morning and sleeping beside its mother. Jonathan has been talking about the "baby cow sleep" ever since.

Our little boy, who LOVES bugs and insists on trying to smash every one he can find, clung to his Daddy when they approached the honey bee display with the honeycomb behind plexiglass. Apparently the little guy does have a healthy tad of survival fear!

I took this last shot a few minutes ago in the backyard. It's a rainy spring day, and I love the bright green soft spring grass David seeded a few weeks ago. Together with the little buds on the tree, it just sings that Easter's coming.
