I was totally taken with a group of little cabins off a river in Glen Rose where we spent two nights.
The cabin was small but beautifully lit with large, low windows,
and to make the place just perfect, we discovered a Dinosaur book sitting on the kids' bed,
and a cradle for Joshua.
We loved having a kitchen to prepare our own meals and avoid the hassle of eating out,
and the fire circle in front of the cabin meant s'mores for dessert! We visited Dinosaur Valley State Park, and to Jonathan's delight we were able to see the fossils of dinosaur footprints that make this area the "Dinosaur Capital of Texas." ;)

(Can you see the three-toed footprint to the right of Jonathan here?)
The kids were equally delighted with the model dinosaurs at the park entrance.

We also spent a day at Fossil Rim Wildlife Preserve.
I have fun memories of visiting the park as a kid, both with school and with my family, and we enjoyed the wildlife.

After a few days in Glen Rose we headed up to Dallas to spent some time with my family. We were able to visit the Dallas Zoo with Kimie, Lucy, and Elliot.

Feeding the giraffes was a huge hit.

and Jonathan and Abby always enjoy the reptile house.

Joshua enjoyed the cuddles and the ride as well, but Abby got a cooler ride:
Kimie and I are in the same flash photography course and both had our cameras in hand.
(How’s that for wonky white balance?)
Among the more impressive events of the trip was our Friday night outting. My mom and dad watched all FIVE grandkids under the age of five for a few hours while we went out to dinner with Daniel and Kimie. They sent us a few iPhone photos while we were out to assure us all was going well, and it seems everyone had a great time. I’m impressed they took on that crowd, at bedtime, no less! A 4 1/2 year old, 2 1/2 year old, 1 1/2 year old, and two young infants. WHEW!
Another highlight of the trip was a visit to LegoLand with Nonnie and Papa. Jonathan is really bananas about Legos these days, and we really enjoyed the adventure. In fact, Monday morning when we got home the kids’ favorite game was to play “LegoLand” where they set up their room to reflect all the different activities they’d done at LegoLand. We followed that with a lunch at the Gaylord Texan Hotel, and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the model train there.
The next day we celebrated Easter, but as it’s getting late, I think I’ll save that post for later.
