Abigail's Baptism, Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend we were blessed to have my parents in town to celebrate Abigail's baptism. We were excited about this celebration of our commitment to raise Abigail in a home dedicated to raising our children to know and to love our heavenly Father and to accept the profound grace and extravagant forgiveness we are given by Jesus Christ through his death and resurrection. While we acknowledge that her baptism does not assure her acceptance of Christ's forgiveness, guarantee she will be a follower of Christ, seal her salvation, or "get her into heaven," we do believe that it is an important act of obedience in a family who rests in faith in Jesus Christ. Just as families were baptized together into the new covenant in the early church, and just as all boys and men in a family were circumcised based on a father's faith under the covenant in the Old Testament, so for us the baptism of our children is a sign that we are raising our children in a covenant of faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Here are a few photos from the weekend:
Quick photo-op with Nonnie and Papa before heading off to church.

Our first family photo since Abby was born where everyone's facing forward! Apparently getting 4 pairs of eyes on the camera is extraordinarily difficult.
We were blessed by Dan Walmer's introduction of our family. Abby was quite attentive.
Singing "This Little Light of Mine." It is our hope that both of our children will truly be a light to those around them. You can see Jonathan LOVES this song! Singing it with Pastor Russell Thompson makes it even better.

Today we went out for a little family outing to a boardwalk not far from here. Jonathan enjoyed riding the rides with his Daddy.
Abby and I picked a more steady seat on the carousel.
Riding the train -- choo choo!
Taking a snack break on a park bench.
